St Mary's Black History Month culminated with a focus week where we celebrated all of the wonderful diversity that our school has to offer.
We kick started the week with our Ethiopian families joining us for a special assembly in the Junior School. The parents wore traditional garments and shared some interesting facts about Ethiopia with us. The parents then made the staff a special coffee and some beautiful breads and biscuits.
Our Caribbean parents joined us for our Infant School assembly. The parents shared information about the countries they are from which included: Jamaica, Barbados, San Lucia and Montserrat. We then enjoyed some Caribbean music and coffee.
On Wednesday, our work experience students were set the task of researching and presenting about Ghana to our Year 6 pupils. Our Ghanaian parents brought in beautiful food that were shared with our staff and students.
During this focus week, all of the children in our Infant and Junior Schools took part in researching a country; some chose countries in Africa while others chose countries from the Caribbean. On Friday, the children presented what they had learnt in our Infant and Junior assemblies.
Thank you to Mrs Georgiou, who organised these special events throughout the week, and all of our parents who gave us an insight into their cultures and donated beautiful food and drinks.
