EASTER HOLIDAY WORK

 

Hello, Year 4!!!

 

 We hope that you and your family are well, safe and you have slowly got used to a new and challenging routines.

 

Since Easter is a very important time to all of us, we will not be giving you daily assignments to complete. Instead, we’ve posted some work for you to do over that whole special period. However, please don’t worry if you are not able to finish all of it. Keep safe and happy!

COMPREHENSION PROJECT

 

Try to read 1 chapter daily and do one of the suggested tasks:

  • ​describe the character
  • draw the character and label it with adjectives
  • describe the setting
  • draw the setting and label it with adjectives
  • draw a picture to illustrate one of the scenes
  • create a comic strip to show what happened in the chapter
  • write a summary of the chapter
  • predict what can happen next
  • find new words (5 - 10), look up their meanings and write a short story using  most of them
  • create a crossword using new vocabulary
  • find one new word and try to write an acrostic poem with it 
  • find new words and draw emojis that would represent each of them

Follow up Task

Using the descriptions in the story, draw a map that includes the Carter's house, the city of Manaus, and the river between. Then, try to place all of Maia's favourite locations on the map, including her dance class, the museum, Finn's secluded home, even the docks where Clovis hides. You can place other locations on the map that appear in the story. Try to place each location an accurate distance from the others.

Write a paragraph of how you are feeling as you arrive in Manaus, Brazil and when you meet your relatives for the first time. Describe what Mrs Carter looked like. Describe what Mr. Carter looked like. Describe what the twins looked like. (Use lots of adjectives and noun phrases).
